Meet Karen Fung

I’m a senior advisory executive with over 25 years of experience in corporate insolvency, turnaround management, and advising businesses, lenders and government entities. My passion lies in helping organizations navigate complex financial and operational challenges, providing creative, tailored and practical solutions that drive business recovery, growth, and long-term success.  

Before starting my own practice, I was a partner at Ernst & Young in their Restructuring and Insolvency Practice.

Throughout my career, I’ve led high-stakes projects, advising on distressed assets, and guiding public and private sector clients through intricate restructuring processes. As a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA), Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional (CIRP), and Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT), I specialize in managing and seeking out strategic options and solutions inside and outside of CCAA/BIA proceedings and have extensive experience with distressed asset sales, DIP financing, claims management and operational restructuring. In addition, I’ve led notable cases such as Pride Group Holdings’ $2B restructuring and the compensation claims process for Nortel Networks, handling the disbursement of over $1B to creditors.

One of my most distinctive roles outside of restructuring has been acting as a trusted advisor to government entities, helping them assess financial viability, complete due diligence, and execute strategies for long-term sectoral development.

What truly motivates me is the opportunity to mobilize, mentor and lead teams. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to guide talented professionals, offer hands-on training and create environments where collaboration and innovation thrive. Whether I’m leading a team through a national restructuring mandate or collaborating with stakeholders to achieve win-win solutions, I firmly believe that collective effort is the key to success.

In addition to these areas of expertise, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of the industry as a thought leader and panelist at major conferences, including the CAIRP Insolvency and Restructuring Exchange and the Distressed Cannabis Conference. I’m also proud to serve as a mentor in several professional networks, helping to empower the next generation of leaders.
